What makes our holiday box "serene" and the benefits of sea buckthorn oil

What makes our holiday deluxe box "serene"?

This month's seasonal scent for our hair & roller perfumes combines the essential oils of juniper, rosemary and lavender. We wanted to create a scent that was both wintery and calming, since the holiday season is (more often than not) both a time of joy and stress. Juniper is bright and seasonal with a delightful evergreen scent, and rosemary and lavender both are used in aromatherapy to relax the mind and calm the nervous system. Rosemary specifically is often used in aromatherapy to promote focus & memory function. Lavender is one of the ultimate calming & stress-relieving plants in herbal medicine. The combination of these three plants' oils creates a scent that is reminiscent of walking through coniferous woods in the winter, and can be part of your ritual during times of stress and overwhelm.

New product: Golden Face Oil & benefits of sea buckthorn oil

This new face oil combines sunflower oil, almond oil, and sea buckthorn oil, three moisturizing yet non-comedogenic oils for the skin. Non-comedogenic essentially just means "non-pore clogging", making this face oil appropriate for those with more oily/acne prone skin. We wanted to formulate a skin oil that was lightweight, moisturizing, and could be used in a variety of ways. One of my favorite ways to use this sort of blend is for face massage or gua sha- especially just after a shower. If your skin is a little damp, the oil will absorb much faster and you won't need to use as much. You can also simply use this as part of your daily skincare routine after washing & using toners or lighter moisturizers.

We originally had the idea for this product because we wanted to make something featuring sea buckthorn oil, a nutrient rich, non-pore clogging oil that really tends to make the skin glow. Sea buckthorn oil is rich in omega fatty acids, including omega-3, omega-6 and omega-7. These fatty acids are potent anti-inflammatories and support the integrity of the lipid barrier on the skin. This lipid barrier plays an important role in protecting our skin from external pollutants and toxins. Sea buckthorn oil has also been used to reduce scarring, and improve the overall hydration of the skin. It is a highly pigmented oil which is an indicator of its high antioxidant content- making it another plant extract that supports cell health. This powerhouse oil is combined with sunflower & almond oils to support well-hydrated, healthy & glowing skin.

Our body butter- why it's infused with calendula and gotu kola

Our luxurious, whipped vanilla body butter is already extremely moisturizing and good for the skin- made of almond oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter, these oils and butters provide natural hydrating fats and nutrients for the skin. We wanted to take this one step further by infusing the body butter with herbs that also support good skin health. Calendula is one of my favorite herbs to support the skin. Known in herbal medicine as a "vulnerary", this means "wound-healing herb". Calendula may improve scarring, can provide relief for dry, irritated skin, and is a gentle anti-inflammatory. It is also an "emollient" herb, meaning is is moisturizing to the skin. Gotu kola is another amazing herb for the skin that is traditionally used to improve skin texture, smoothing out the skin and also providing support for any dry, irritated, rough or inflamed skin. Gotu kola has cell-proliferating properties, meaning it supports the creation of healthy new skin cells. It is a deeply soothing and moisturizing plant. Combined, calendula and gotu kola offer a deeper level of skin nourishment to our body butter.

Wishing you a joyous and peaceful holiday season,
